As you may be aware, Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association (WYLA), Inc is funding the development of the Wilmington High School Boys & Girls Lacrosse program. WYLA recognizing the growing excitement of the sport in the community, decide to continue its mission by establishing a venue for post youth lacrosse players by supporting the Wilmington High School lacrosse teams.

WYLA recognize lacrosse is a game. As parents, we recognize HS Lacrosse as an extension of the classroom that provides teaching and learning experiences for all involved. These experiences and lessons relate as much to life and education as they do to the outcome of a simple lacrosse game. The privilege of interscholastic athletic participation can be one of the most exciting experiences of a students-athlete's life. When kept in proper perspective, interscholastic athletics allows kids to be kids.

Since the start back in 2004, WYLA's growth has been overwhelming. During the inaugural season (spring 2005), WYLA fielded 6 teams with over 130 players. In 2006, we increased to 185 players, and had over 230 participants in 2007. With our increased enrollment, we want to continue to provide the opportunity for Wilmington youth to enjoy lacrosse. To that end, WYLA offered to fund the Boys & Girls teams at the high school level for the spring of 2006. The Wilmington School Committee agreed to allow WYLA to fund the Junior Varsity high school teams for two years (2006 & 2007) and include funding for Varsity teams in the Wilmington School Athletic Department budget for the 2007/2008 school year.

Due to the popularity of boys and girls High School Lacrosse, WYLA agree to continue its support of HS Lacrosse by funding two JV programs for the next two years.

WYLA will continue it fundraising activities to help solidify its commitment to the Boys & Girls High School teams this year. I know you have been very generous in past with many other worthy causes.
